Silk Screens & Stencils

With silkscreens and stencils you can make all kinds of patterns & designs on the clay. This gives your design just that little bit extra

Silk screens and stencils create patterns in the clay, but they each work in a different way.

If you have a piece of clay on which you want a pattern, lay the silk screen tightly and flat on the piece of clay. Take that a good acrylic paint in color of your liking and put some of that paint in a stripe on the end of the silk screen. Then take a scraper and spread the paint over the entire silk screen. Make sure you have coated every piece of the silk screen with paint and then remove the silk screen. And you see the result, the pattern is now on the clay.

Stencils can be used in several ways:
You can run the stencil together with the piece of clay through the clay machine (pasta machine). As a result, the relief of the stencil ends up in the clay. The stencil now works as a stamp.
The other option is to lay the stencil on the clay, flat and tight and then with, for example, a mica powder over it. Remove the stencil and the design is now in mica powder on the clay.
In addition, there are more possibilities, by combining the use of different materials and techniques.
